Vice President Joe Biden joined President Barack Obama’s defense of Hillary Clinton as qualified to be president — after her Democratic primary opponent Bernie Sanders suggested that she wasn’t qualified to be president.

Biden dismissed Sanders’ comments as campaign politics but backed Hillary’s qualifications.

“Gosh almighty, they’re both qualified,” he said, during an interview with mic.com. “Hillary’s overwhelmingly qualified to be president.”

Biden boasted that the United States was ready for a woman to be president and even said he would “like to see a woman elected” in 2016.

Although his aides interrupted the interview and tried to stop him from discussing the issue further, Biden reminded the interviewer that he would not make an endorsement in the race.
