One-Third of ‘Pro-Choice’ Women Turn Against Abortion After Viewing Video of Procedure

A survey shows that a four-minute medical animation video of what happens during an abortion leads over a third of “pro-choice” women to view abortion “less favorably.”

Pro-life organization Live Action’s “man-on-the-street” video below shows people watching a medical animation video of a Dilatation & Evacuation surgical Abortion Procedures video, narrated by former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino.

During this second trimester abortion procedure, the abortionist uses instruments to tear the baby’s arms, legs, and body organs, and crush his or her head prior to extracting the baby’s remains from the uterus.

Live Action used independent polling company Survey Monkey to conduct an online video survey of 502 women between the ages of 18 and 30 who watched the video. The responses of the 208 women who identified themselves as “pro-choice” were then analyzed.

Asked if the video changed their view of abortion, 34 percent of the “pro-choice” women said the video led them to view abortion “less favorably,” including 25 percent “somewhat less favorably” and 9.1 percent “much less favorably.” Survey results showed that 62 percent of “pro-choice” women viewed abortion the same as they did prior to watching the surgical abortion video.

When the “pro-choice” women were asked if there should be more or fewer restrictions on abortion after viewing the video, 28.4 percent said more restrictions, 29.3 percent said fewer restrictions, and 42.3 percent said restrictions should remain as is.

When the “pro-choice” women were also asked who should see the video of the second trimester abortion (they were invited to check as many categories as they wished), 46.6 percent said “high school sex education classes, 42.8 percent responded “college students,” 39.4 percent said “pregnant women considering abortion, 38.9 percent answered “general public,” 26 percent said elected officials, and 34.1 percent said “none of the above.”

Many pro-life Facebook commenters have responded to the “man-on-the-street” video with surprise that individuals who self-identify as “pro-choice” actually have no idea of what happens during an abortion or of how developed unborn babies are during the second trimester of pregnancy.

“After watching the man-on-the-street interviews, people are commenting that they had always assumed most ‘pro-choice’ people knew what abortion entailed and supported it anyway, but that this video has helped them to see the power of educating others,” president of Live Action Lila Rose tells Breitbart News. “While the people we interviewed were used to just repeating the pro-abortion talking points they had learned from politicians, the media, and the abortion industry, in four minutes, they saw the truth that changed their minds.”

“That proves what we’ve said all along,” she adds. “This is a winning battle.”

A recent Marist College Institute for Public Opinion poll found a full 81 percent of Americans favor some restrictions on abortion — including limiting the procedure after the first three months — and a continued ban on public funding of abortion.

In the survey of 1,700 Americans, even 66 percent of respondents who identify themselves as pro-choice say, “Abortion should be allowed, at most, in the first trimester, in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother, or never permitted.”

Rose also observes the abortion industry continues to work “to keep women in the dark about how developed their preborn children in the womb are and what abortion procedures actually entail for both the mother and the child.” Thus, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and others in the abortion lobby fight against mandatory ultrasounds prior to making the decision to have an abortion, and protest when “fetuses” are humanized.

“The more people learn about abortion, the more they see how barbaric and inhumane it is — whether the abortion is committed by depriving a preborn child of nutrients for days until she dies, or by ripping her limbs apart while she’s still alive, or by injecting her with a drug to induce cardiac arrest,” Rose explains.
