McConnell on Kristol’s Third-Party Push: ‘I Hope He’s Not Successful’ — ‘Will Help Elect Hillary’

In an interview with Business Insider, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) warned against those attempting to thwart a Donald Trump presidency by introducing a third-party alternative to the mix.

McConnell was specifically asked about Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol’s effort, which McConnell said could take votes away from a right-of-center nominee and give the presidency to a liberal like Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

“Well I hope he’s not successful, because that will help elect Hillary Clinton to the presidency,” McConnell said. “It’s hard to run as an independent and be successful. You could conceivably take votes away from a right-of-center nominee and make it more likely that a liberal gets elected president.”
