PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — Flash. Bang.
A fierce lightning-laced thunderstorm has struck Philadelphia as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders completes his full surrender to Hillary Clinton’s Democratic Party establishment here Monday night.
“It’s just one of those summer days,” disgraced former NBC News anchor Brian Williams said of the heavy rains on MSNBC—his new home after journalistic dishonesty crashed his mainstream career—on Monday just minutes before Sanders was set to take the stage.
But one can’t help but feel the extreme weather—which has led local authorities to issue a flash flood alert until after 11 p.m. at least—is almost an omen that something bad is happening here in Philadelphia tonight.
“Bernie Sanders has lit a match, started this movement, and part of it has—no pun intended—burned out of his control,” NBC News’s Kasie Hunt told Williams moments after he brushed the weather off as nothing important.
Progressives are furious with Clinton, the former lirst Lady, New York Senator, and Secretary of State who will officially win her party’s nomination here this week, for seemingly cheating to win the nomination. Hacked emails from inside the Democratic National Committee (DNC), published online by WikiLeaks over the past few days en masse totaling nearly 20,000 private messages, show the party’s backbone played favorites and pushed Clinton over Sanders. The emails have led to the forthcoming resignation of DNC chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), and subsequently to her removal from the role of gaveling in the convention and gaveling it out this week.
Crack. Rain pours down loudly in Philadelphia. Cars on highways heading into and coming out of the city slow to 10-15 miles per hour below the speed limit. It’s as if the heavens have opened up on this city.
“They [the Clinton team] shouldn’t talk down to them [the Sanders supporters],” former Ohio State Sen. Nina Turner, a Sanders backer, said of what needs to happen at the convention.
But that’s hardly what has happened. Instead of rectifying the situation, top Democrats have just whitewashed it. Wasserman Schultz will take on a senior role in Clinton’s presidential campaign, which is viewed by Sanders supporters as a promotion of sorts. She will be replaced in the DNC chair role by Donna Brazile, who herself sent emails calling Sanders’ team “stupid” and his movement “lunacy”—adding that she wanted to “cuss” at the Sanders backers. Meanwhile, not one person who sent any of the other emails from the DNC has faced any kind of accountability for their actions.
“No TPP! No TPP! No TPP!” protesters shout down Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) from inside the convention, as outside lightning strikes and thunder rolls.
All of that is happening on the backdrop of Clinton’s apparent sellout to the world elites, and establishment donor class, with her selection of Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA)—a globalist who supports amnesty for illegal aliens, the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), and who received gifts during his tenure as governor—as her running mate. Kaine poured fuel on the fire in an interview with 60 Minutes by declaring the DNC didn’t do anything wrong, and that what happened was completely normal.
It wasn’t.
“It’s a movement, not a man and it will not be stopped!” Green Party candidate Jill Stein told Breitbart News’s Jen Lawrence outside the convention before the storm settled in on Philadelphia at night. Earlier in the day Monday Sanders was booed when he told Democrats to vote for Clinton, and his supporters aren’t joining him in backing Clinton just yet. Not even close.
Meanwhile, inside the convention, Hillary Clinton and John Podesta—her campaign chair—were booed as Sanders delegates plot an effort to remove Kaine as the vice presidential candidate and install, against Clinton’s will, someone more progressive and less establishment.
Jennifer Palmieri, Hillary Clinton’s communications director, rushed to MSNBC shortly after Podesta was booed by Democrats to feverishly spin on the so-called progressive victories in the Democratic Party platform. Over and over again, a nervous Palmieri told the progressive network that they worked with the Sanders campaign on the platform—calling it the most progressive in history. Palmieri said that Sanders was “very effective” in calling for unity behind Clinton to defeat Donald Trump.
But just as the storm outside keeps raging on, the storm inside the Democratic National Convention doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon.
