Pence: This Election Is About ‘The Things That Reach Your Kitchen Table’

FLETCHER, North Carolina — Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Mike Pence declared to a Monday evening overflow crowd in Fletcher that he believes the reason for the movement behind the Trump-Pence ticket is that “neighbors are talking to neighbors, coworkers are talking to coworkers.”

“The stakes in the election go far beyond what the media is focused on, on any given day,” Pence told the crowd of nearly 400.

“It really has to do with the things that, the things that reach your kitchen table.”

Nationally syndicated radio host Mark Levin wrote of the importance of discussion around the dinner table in his book Plunder and Deceit. “All great change in America begins at the dinner table,” he says in the book that debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list across three categories.

In August 2015, in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News at his Reagan Library book signing, Levin said:

I look back at the pre-revolutionary period when the colonists would talk to each other through pamphlets. They’d sit down at pubs or the dinner table with their family. Word of mouth is an extremely powerful thing. Nobody can obstruct us. Nobody can stop us. We don’t need to be vetted. We don’t have to go through anything. You can make a difference. We are millions of Paul and Paulette Reveres and we need to take that power and use it.

“It’s pretty much 2-on-1 out there every day with the media doing half of Hillary Clinton’s work for her,” Pence said on Monday. “I think the reason this movement continues to grow, continues to expand, is because neighbors are talking to neighbors, coworkers are talking to coworkers.”

“On behalf of Donald Trump, go tell somebody that America can be strong again. Go tell somebody that we can get this economy rolling again here in North Carolina, across the country.”

“Sometimes there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the two parties, let’s be honest. This isn’t such a time,” said Pence.

“Go tell your neighbors and friends, coworkers at work, at worship, stop people outside the drugstore, over a backyard fence and just tell them look this is a choice, this is a choice, this is a choice between up and down,” he continued, adding:

This is a choice whether we are going to continue to go down the hill to a weaker America at home and abroad, to a struggling American economy, to diminishing opportunities for our children and grandchildren, walking farther away from our most cherished constitutional traditions and expectations in public life or whether we are going to stop and plant our feet and turn around and march back up the hill to a stronger, more prosperous America built on our constitutional traditions and our highest ideas. That’s what this choice is.

“So you gotta to tell somebody,” said Pence. “Twenty-eight days everybody, it’s gonna go by in a blink.”
