Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is welcoming the FBI’s decision to re-open the case into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, adding that the decision was “long overdue.”
“[Clinton] was entrusted with some of our nation’s most important secrets, and she betrayed that trust by carelessly mishandling highly classified information,” Ryan says in a statement.
“This decision, long overdue, is the result of her reckless use of a private email server, and her refusal to be forthcoming with federal investigators,” he continued.
“I renew my call for the Director of National Intelligence to suspend all classified briefings for Secretary Clinton until this matter is fully resolved,” he added.
Ryan was one of the first Republicans to react to the news, whilst Donald Trump gleefully relayed the news to the crowd in his New Hampshire rally, who proceeded to chant “lock her up!”
Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway welcomed the news, saying on twitter “a great day in the campaign just got even better.”
