Poll: Hillary Clinton Leads Trump by Three Points after Renewed FBI Investigation

The latest POLITICO/Morning Consult poll shows Hillary Clinton with a three point lead over Donald Trump ahead of the general election in eight days.

Clinton tops Trump, 46 percent to 43 percent in a head-to-head match up, and in a four-way race, she leads 42 percent to 39 percent.

Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson received seven percent in the poll, while Green Party candidate Jill Stein raked in five percent.

The survey was conducted after the FBI announced it renewed its investigation into the former secretary of state’s private email server.

Forty-two percent of the small fraction of voters who remain undecided said the news about the renewed FBI investigation “made them less likely to vote for Clinton.” However, 41 percent of those who are undecided said it made no difference.

“It is unlikely that there will be a dramatic shift in the polls before Election Day,” explained Morning Consult’s cofounder and Chief Research Officer Kyle Dropp. “While Friday’s news may be considered an ‘October Surprise,’ it doesn’t seem to be moving the needle as of now.”

The poll questioned 1,772 likely voters online on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30. The results yield a plus or minus two percent margin of error.
