In 2007, the deficit was $160 billion
. In 2008 it was $454 billion
. Then Obama took office and for two years under a Democratic-led Senate and Congress, he got everything on his wish-list passed.
So what was the all-important goal of this fabled and fabulously stupid Super Committee? To lower the deficit by ... $1.2 trillion.
Yep, that's it. A measly $1.2 trillion -- to which I say, why even bother? If that's all you're going to lower the deficit by, you've already accepted the premise that most of what Obama's done to explode the size of government is acceptable.
To the bigger point.
One of the only hopes this failed president has to win re-election is to convince enough voters his
failed economy isn't his
fault. So what better way to pin the blame on a "do nothing" Congress (meaning: Republicans) than with this Super Committee nonsense? What the Democrats effectively did with this committee was to put Republicans in a no-win situation. Either they could betray the message of 2010 and raise taxes, or they would be blamed for the committee's failure.
And as we are seeing today, the corrupt MSM was in on the scheme.
Ladies and gentleman, Exhibit A: an absolutely giddy Carol Costello...
Everything Costello's asking and pushing in that segment is based on the immoral and ignorant premise that raising taxes will somehow -- and for the first time in history!
-- help the economy grow. Because, you know, taking money out of the private sector and throwing it into the black hole of that same genius public sector that found green energy so worthwhile and wasted $900 billion on the failed stimulus will create jobs.
As you'll see in the Costello segment below with Republican Senator John Kyl, Republicans in the Super Committee actually did offer $250 billion in tax increases in the form of closing a number of loopholes in the upper two tax brackets. But that's not information the MSM is about to volunteer or concede was a serious offer.
But the most fascinating part of the segment occurs at right around the 3:15 mark when Costello lets her feelings show and says to Kyl about her rabid desire to raise taxes, "I'm not going to convince you. I realize that. "
Kyl's response is priceless:
Raising taxes in this economy in order to fund Obama's immorally large and provably failed spending spree will only hurt the people we are counting on to create the jobs in this country. I am, however, completely in favor of closing any and all loopholes, because those loopholes breed corruption, favoritism, and the kind of crony capitalism that currently infects both sides of the aisle.
But as we're seeing in the media coverage, the failure of this committee is the win Obama and his media allies were looking for. Good heavens, hours before the official announcement of the committee's failure, Costello, CNN and the rest of Obama's Media Palace Guards were already on full offense turning Grover Norquist into a Koch brother and blaming Republicans for being in this "lobbyist"'s pocket.
I have no doubt Obama is celebrating the failure of this committee, and if you watch Costello in both clips, she looks positively overjoyed and awfully well-rehearsed when it comes to those left-wing talking points.
Furthermore, the left-wing media wants you to forget that this "do nothing" Republican Congress has already passed Cut, Cap, and Balance
and the Ryan Plan
This Congress is doing plenty. Just not what the MSM wants.
