Limbaugh, Palin, and Cruz Rally Against Business as Usual in Texas

Now that Gov. Sarah Palin has thrown her endorsement behind Republican Senate candidate Ted Cruz in Texas, the upcoming congressional primaries in that state should provide a real look at how strong the Tea Party could be during full-scale elections later this year. That’s because Cruz is up against an establishment candidate in Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, as well as a moderate Republican in former ESPN analyst Craig James.

And Palin is not alone in endorsing Cruz. Rather, Cruz has enjoyed Tea Party backing and the endorsement of another one of the biggest names in conservatism–Rush Limbaugh.

Cruz’s platform includes a promise to repeal Obamacare, which immediately makes him stand out from Dewhurst–a candidate who has yet to explain his seeming admiration for socialized medicine and individual healthcare mandates. Yet Dewhurst has the strength of the establishment behind him. James, on the other hand, while having the advantage of not being as entrenched in the party apparatus as Dewhurst, is seriously hurt by the fact that he’s moderate at best. And the last thing Texas or the U.S. needs is another moderate in a position of power.

Taken together, Dewhurst and James represent what’s wrong with the Republican Party. One knows all the right people but isn’t prepared to do the right things and the other doesn’t even claim to know the right people or the right things.

Against this business-as-usual approach to politics, Palin, Limbaugh, and Cruz are asking Texans to vote conservative and send a some real change to Washington this November.
