George Soros’s son, Jonathan, is starting a Super PAC to lessen the impact of Super PACs. 

According to The New York Times, the Friends of Democracy Super PAC will support 10 to 15 House lawmakers supportive of campaign finance reform, while a sister group will designate politicians as “heroes" and give them financial backing as well. The Super PAC will campaign against those not supportive of campaign finance laws. 

Soros’s son tells the Times that they are “explicitly nonpartisan in our goal and in our approach,” before conceding that "there is a partisan likelihood, because we have to take the field as it is.”

He then acknowledged, “most of the candidates — if not all," that the Super PAC will support "are likely to be Democrats,” and “most of the ones they oppose are likely to be Republicans.”

According to the Times, the group will “demand support for transparency, lobbying reform, a stronger and more independent Federal Elections Commission,” and it plans to raise $5 million to $8 million to run negative ads against politicians who oppose campaign finance reform.

“The irony is not lost on anybody,” Soros’s son told the Times.
