CBS Chicago reports that the shootings and violence have become so endemic in Chicago that none other than the Nation of Islam has now stepped in to try and bring a halt to the violence.  

Calling themselves the “Fruit of Islam,” the group, led by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, consisting of more than 500 members, went door to door in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. They passed out flyers, newspapers, and DVDs, according to CBS Chicago, entitled, “Justifiable Homicide: Youth in Peril.”

This was the second time Nation of Islam members, many of whom boarded buses after meeting at a Mosque on South Stony Island, have taken to the streets, and, according to CBS Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel praised Farrakhan’s outreach efforts. 

The group also met with someone referred to as “Tone-Tone,” who told CBS Chicago that he felt like it was “an honor” to be close to the radical Farrakhan.
