Obama Visit Shuts Down Schools

Obama has scheduled a visit to Portsmouth, New Hampshire on Friday, and schools are being closed for the day because roads will have to be shut down around the town. Originally the police and Secret Service thought that simply dismissing three schools earlier in the day would suffice, but then superintendent Ed McDonough said that closing the roads would involve separate bus runs. In a letter to parents, he wrote:

Given the high volume of traffic expected on Friday, we are better served to close all schools and reschedule a full day of school later in the year.

In order to make up the day for students, May 24, 2103 will replace the lost day. There’s only one problem: that day was originally scheduled for teacher workshops.

So much for Barack Obama standing by the teachers of America.
