Union Protesters Block Customers at Atlanta Walmart

Today in Atlanta, union protesters tried to slow or block shoppers from entering Walmart. Approximately 24 union protesters set up a picket line across the driveway of an Atlanta Walmart, apparently harassing but allowing cars through the picket line. One SUV driver didn’t stop for the picket line, instead using the car to nudge the protesters out of the way. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

The picketers broke their line to let cars enter the lot, but things got testy just before 9 a.m. when the driver of a sport utility vehicle slowed for the protesters, but didn’t come to a stop at the crosswalk, and nudged several of the protesters out of her way. No one appeared to have been injured in the encounter, and the SUV continued into the store’s parking deck.

Walmart has filed for an injunction against strikers with the National Labor Relations Board against the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union protests. The union protesters want more than $13 per hour, health care coverage, full-time work, and full-scale unionization. Walmart, not being financially suicidal, has declined. Overall, the protests, according to Walmart, have included just 50 Walmart employees.
