Newark Mayor Corey Booker Reserves CoreyBookerForPresident.com

The Wall Street Journal reports today that Newark Mayor Corey Booker, widely perceived as a potential 2013 Democratic nominee for New Jersey governor against incumbent Chris Christie, may forego that race and instead run for the New Jersey Senate seat in 2014. But his ambitions stretch beyond that.

According to Politicker, Booker’s fundraising right hand Bari Mattes has reserved websites including CoreyBookerForPresident.com. That site is set to expire in 2013.

If Booker were to run for president in 2016, he would be a difficult candidate to beat. The black vote went for then-Senator Barack Obama by a huge margin in the 2008 primaries, and constitutes approximately 30% of the entire primary voting population. If Booker drew similar support, he would put his opponents in a serious bind – including, potentially, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who lost to Obama in 2008 in a similar match-up.
