Aussie Golf Course Owner Doesn't Want Tiger Woods to Attend Tournament
Even though Tiger Woods has never played at the Australian PGA Championship, billionaire Clive Parker, who owns the golf course that hosts the tournament, said he did not want Woods to play in the tournament this year.
Palmer said Woods, who still remains golf's biggest draw, was "an emotional wreck" and "not a good example for kids."
"Tiger Woods isn’t the No. 1 golfer in the world anymore," Palmer said. "We don’t want to look backwards; we want to look forwards. So why would we get Tiger Woods here?"
Palmer said he would try to get Rory McIlroy, who is currently the world's top-ranked golfer, to play the tournament, though that is also not a certainty.
The tournament, which is not considered to be one of the more prestigious contests, may be moved to a different venue next year. Palmer's golf course has "a roaring, 26-foot robotic dinosaur" and "60-plus painted signs promoting many of his own companies."
