Obama to nominate John Kerry as secretary of state

US President Barack Obama will nominate Senator John Kerry, a veteran foreign policy hand and former presidential candidate, as his next secretary of state on Friday, a US official told AFP.

The current holder of Washington's top diplomatic post, Hillary Clinton, had indicated that she wishes to step down after Obama begins his second term in office next month and her replacement is confirmed.

The past several months have seen the price of gold slump even as the Fed and other central banks have accelerated their massive expansion of paper money. Gold is off about 20% so far this year with silver down almost 30%.
