Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Drops Support of Gun Rights

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, of New York, who used to be a strong supporter of gun rights, has joined anti-gun zealots since the Sandy Hook massacre. A woman of principle she’s not.

Gillibrand used to brag about keeping two rifles under her bed when she was a congresswoman from the Albany district, which is conservative. At the time, she got the highest rating from the NRA. But her perspective has changed since she was appointed a senator; she joined with New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and the Brady Campaign, which work for strict gun control laws. She came out in favor of an assault-weapons ban in 2009; she has also favored background checks for gun sales at gun shows.  

Now she has written legislation preventing gun trafficking.

Richard Feldman, head of the Independent Firearms Owners Association, was disgusted with Gillibrand, saying, “I think gun owners probably view her in ways they view Mitt Romney. How do you trust someone when they change their stance and politics?”
