Feinstein's Assault Weapons Ban Comes Tomorrow

Sen. Dianne Feinstein is making it clear that her “assault weapons” ban will be introduced Thursday, Jan. 24.

This ban includes not only “assault rifles,” but also numerous handguns and shotguns, and of course, magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

In other words, this isn’t really an “assault weapons” ban as much as it is a gun ban, period.

Included in the ban are “120 specifically-named firearms,” which entail shotguns, rifles, and handguns that use a detachable magazine and have a military characteristic or rifles, shotguns, and handguns that have a fixed magazine but hold more than 10 rounds.

As I indicated in a previous post, this bill kindly “protects” gun owners who already own such guns by grandfathering those weapons in. But it requires all grandfathered weapons to be registered under the National Firearms Act–which entails not simply registering the gun, but also photographing and fingerprinting the owner.

In other words, hello gun registration, good-bye private sales, etc.

Clearly, Feinstein has turned a deaf ear to Bill Clinton’s warning that these kinds of pushes are simply setting the Democrats up for a shellacking at the hands of the Tea Party in 2014.
