Woman on Vacation with Family Jailed for 22-Year Old Misdemeanor

When architect Robin Hall went to Port Canaveral during her Disney cruise with her family, she was looking for fun and sun but instead saw bars and bail. Hall was jailed almost as soon as she arrived in Florida for failure to pay $85 dollars in court fees--22 years ago.

The crime was uncovered when authorities checked the ship’s passenger list for terrorists; instead, they found the mother of two was arrested at the age of 18 for stealing cigarettes from a Walmart and had an outstanding warrant for not paying the resulting fines.

Since her misdemeanor arrest, Hall has put herself through college, received a degree in architecture, and now designs jet engines for Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut.

As soon as she walked off the cruise ship, police were awaiting to arrest her. “I was pulled to the side and told that I had a warrant,” Hall recalled. The now 40-year old was held without bail at the Brevard County Jail due to the fact the charge is in a separate county.

Local news organization WESH of Orlando reported that her stay may have also been extended due to her arrest occurring on a holiday weekend.

“I take full responsibility for what I did, but I do not believe I deserve this,” Hall stated in a recent interview during her incarceration.

All of these gains are nominal, you understand, but for terrified American policy makers and investors, nominal is just fine.
