NRA Raised $1.1 Million in One Month

In January of this year alone, the NRA’s political action committee (PAC) raised $1.1 million, nearly double the approximately $600,000 a month they raised in 2011 and 2012.

Because of this, at the end of January the NRA’s PAC had $2.4 million and no debt–which means the NRA is off to the races with its goal of protecting gun rights by defeating Democrat Senators seeking reelection in 2014.

In addition to an ad campaign the NRA started running in select states on Feb. 21, the PAC has given money to Reps. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) and Bob Goodlatte (R-VA).

As big as these numbers may seem, the NRA faces a disadvantage in that contributions to their PAC are limited to no more than $5,000, while contributions for some prominent gun control super PACs are limitless. This means the NRA PAC needs an overwhelming number of small donations to outdo a handful of major donations to gun control super PACs like the one associated with NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
