Sen. Mike Lee: 'Shameful' for Obama to Push Premature Gun Control Vote

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney labeled a Senate Republican effort to filibuster gun control “shameful.” On Thursday, Brian Phillips, communications director for Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), one of the potential filibusterers,  said:

It is shameful that the administration that promised to be ‘the most transparent administration’ in history, is once again advocating that we rush to vote on legislation that has yet to be finalized in the Senate.  The Senate already held a vote on gun control, when a bipartisan group of 50 senators agreed to protect the Second Amendment.  Six Democrats voted in favor of a budget amendment introduced by Senator Lee that would require 67 votes to pass any gun control legislation.  The president knows that if the American people are given time to evaluate these proposals that they will oppose them.
