'Big Sis' Cancels Senate Immigration Testimony due to Boston
Department of Homeland Secretary Janet Napolitano will not be testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday morning about the “Gang of Eight” immigration reform bill after all, Breitbart News has learned.
A committee aide told reporters here about 10 minutes before the hearing was to start that Napolitano could not make the hearing due to the ongoing terror situation in Boston. The Senate Judiciary is still holding its planned second panel, featuring U.S. Commission on Civil Rights member Peter Kirsanow and Dr.Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the president of American Action Forum.
Holtz-Eakin is a conservative economist who supports the immigration bill and argues it would be good for the economy. Kirsanow opposes the legalization of illegal immigrants on the grounds that it would disadvantage America’s African-American community.
The only other Senate Judiciary Committee immigration bill hearing that the committee’s chairman Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT) has agreed to hold is scheduled for Monday. That committee staffer would not say whether Napolitano would appear at the Monday hearing, but did say she would be rescheduled.
As Breitbart News has previously reported, the bill was introduced at 2:25 a.m. Wednesday. The hearing on the bill, scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Friday, is only 55 hours and 35 minutes after the bill was dropped.
