Business Insider has noticed that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is not a typical Republican senator. The outlet published a piece in which Cruz is referred to as one the most "fearless" and "badass" Republican senators in ages.
The outlet writes the Tea Party hero has "challenged Washington to a fight--and gotten it."
"Brash, borderline arrogant, but undeniably whipsmart, Cruz has rankled Democrats and delighted Republicans with his take-no-prisoners, make-no-compromises approach to legislating," Business Insiderwrites. "His popularity has skyrocketed among a conservative base starved for excitement after enduring milquetoast moderates like Mitt Romney and John McCain."
Business Insider notes Cruz is in the Princeton debate Hall of fame, clerked for Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist and recruited future Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to join the Florida recount team in 2000.
He has been described as being to public speaking what U.S. Olympian Michael Phelps is to swimming, and the publication notes that despite being outspent 3-1, Cruz defeated establishment Republican David Dewhurst for the Republican Senate nomination in Texas last year.
Of course, as Cruz noted during CPAC, Sarah Palin's endorsement ensured he would make the runoff with Dewhurst, which was not guaranteed before Palin rallied conservatives to push Cruz across the threshold.
The article also notes Cruz is "not afraid the of the establishment," pointing to the fact that he accused Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney of "french-kissing" Obama in the third presidential debate while thinking other "Republican Senators are 'squishes' with a 'defeatist attitude'" that Cruz finds "utterly maddening."
The outlet adds that Cruz is also a "fearless" "badass" because he proudly takes credit for killing new gun control legislation--while liberals loathe him so much they have compared him to Joe McCarthy.
