Villaraigosa Sends Himself Off With Lavish Parties

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa may be leaving office dead broke, but that won’t stop the city from dropping $75,000 as a goodbye present. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, “It will be a month of celebrations for Mayor Antonio Villarigosa as he wraps up his eight years in office with a series of public and private tributes by friends and supporters.”

The celebrations kick of on Friday in a party hosted by Ryan Seacrest at City Hall. Called the “LA Ultimate Block Party,” it will also be attended by avid partygoer former President Bill Clinton, as well as Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti, Stevie Wonder, and Wanda Sykes. It will only cost some $75,000 of taxpayer cash for police and traffic, plus another $15,000 in sponsorships from the Department of Water and Power, Department of Airports, and Ports Department. Every year the city holds the party. This year, however, Villaraigosa will be the focus. After all, it’s not as though he parties all the time – he does spend 11 percent of his time on city business.

In a couple of weeks, Villaraigosa will also hit the home of billionaire Ron Burkle to hang with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, former Governor Gray Davis, Magic Johnson, former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and plenty of other business and entertainment luminaries.

The unemployment rate may be 11 percent in the City of Los Angeles, but it’s always party time for the political celebrities who populate the city.
