Grimes Campaign Spins: Failed Campaign Launch Wasn't a 'Rollout'

On Tuesday, Jonathan Hurt, senior advisor to Kentucky senatorial candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes, admitted that his candidate’s rocky rollout -- which involved no air conditioning, a toilet paper roll holding up a mic, and the wrong backdrop – might not have been ideal. But he said that the campaign launch wasn’t actually a campaign launch. It was just an announcement. “Yesterday, Alison was simply announcing her intentions to run,” Hurst told CNN. “I’m certain when we do our rollout, you will see that this will be a top tier campaign and we will have the most professional organization in the state.”

She’d better hurry up. The senate campaign website purporting to be hers just has a blue font reading GrimesForSenate.com, with an email address for information. Jesse Benton, campaign manager for Grimes’ target, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, commented, “Alison Lundergan Grimes spent months agonizing over whether she was interested in a Senate run, but after doing her ‘due diligence,’ she failed to prepare any materials or message to announce her campaign. She had no signs, no website, no speech, no policy positions, nothing.”
