NY Mayoral Rivals Urge Weiner to Drop Out

Other mayoral candidates in New York City are joining in a chorus demanding Anthony Weiner drop out of the mayoral race after the latest revelations of his cybersex history. Two Democratic candidates, Bill de Blasio and Sal Albanese, and John A. Catsimatidis, a Republican, were blunt in calling for Weiner’s withdrawal.

Bill de Blasio said,  “Enough is enough. I’m calling on Anthony to withdraw from this race, for the good of the city that I know he loves as much as all of us.”

Catsimatidis stated, “The Mayor of New York City should be a leader that all the residents of our city, especially our children, can look up to. Anthony Weiner should do what is right for his family and our city and drop out of the race for mayor so we can end this soap opera.”

John C. Liu, who is also in the Democratic race, was more careful: “The issue of Anthony’s relationships, online or otherwise, is between he (sic) and his wife, however the propensity for pornographic selfies is a valid issue for voters. Ideas and eloquence can propel candidates, but judgment and character still do count.”

But Weiner apparently does not like premature withdrawal, saying, “I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out and today they have. I want to again say that I am very sorry to anyone who was on the receiving end of these messages and the disruption this has caused. I want to bring my vision to the people of the city of New York. I hope they are willing to still continue to give me a second chance.”
