Poll: Hispanics View Race Relations Most Favorably

Hispanics see race relations more favorably than whites or blacks, according to a national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

Among Hispanics, 60% thought race relations were either “very good” or “fairly good.” Among whites, 53% thought race relations were “very good” or “fairly good.” Only 38% of blacks thought the same.

In response to a question about whether Americans are judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin, 54% of Americans surveyed said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” agreed, while 55% either “somewhat” or “strongly” disagreed.

Among blacks, only 19% either “strongly” or “somewhat” agreed with the statement. Among whites, 59% either “strongly” or “somewhat” agreed.

And while 54% of Hispanics “strongly” or somewhat” agreed, more Hispanics (26%) “strongly” agreed than whites (21%).

The survey polled 1,000 adults between July 17-21, and its margin of error is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
