Danny Kedem, the campaign manager for Anthony Weiner’s flagging effort to become the next mayor of New York City, has quit following last week’s revelations that Weiner continued online relationships with several women after his June 2011 resignation, and after he began a public campaign to rehabilitate his reputation.
The New York Times reports that Kedem, 31, was one of the few members of Weiner’s campaign staff with much political experience. He had helped elevate Weiner to the top of the polls before scandal erupted once more around the campaign, and New York voters began to question both Weiner’s conduct and his honesty.
The Democratic primary remains wide open, and Weiner built a large campaign war chest, which is why he may choose to stay in the race despite staffing problems. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has failed to excite voters, as has Bill Thompson, who surprised Michael Bloomberg with a strong challenge in 2010.
