On Wednesday, after international reports that George Zimmerman, acquitted over the shooting of Trayvon Martin in Florida, was pulled over in Texas for speeding, the Zimmerman family released a statement excoriating the media for its attempts to trace Zimmerman’s whereabouts:
Our family receives innumerable death threats on a daily basis. We all continue to take our security and privacy very seriously and go to great lengths to ensure our safety in accordance with the law. Despite the truth coming to light in a court of law, persistent circulation of misinformation and speculation continues to put us all at risk, especially George. Speculation as to any family members’ whereabouts – either by the press, or by individuals – is irresponsible and counterproductive.
