White House on World War II Memorial Closure: 'We Honor Our Veterans'

Asked on Wednesday about World War II veterans seeking to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., closed by order of the Obama administration, White House press secretary Jay Carney said, “We honor our World War II veterans…but the fact is when you shut down the government, you shut down a lot of services, you lay off a lot of people, and there are bad consequences to that.

“If any member of Congress who got in front of a television [on this issue]…spent half that time on the floor of the House…we wouldn’t have that problem,” he said.
