Schumer Endorses Hillary for 2016
In a speech Saturday night in Iowa, Sen. Chuck Schumer joined those clamoring for Hillary Clinton to be president in 2016. Schumer endorsed her and also pontificates that if the GOP lets the Tea Party dominate their agenda, they will be blown out in 2016. Schumer said: “Run, Hillary, run. If you run, you’ll win and we’ll all win . . . 2016 is Hillary’s time. And our nation will be all the better for it. With a strong platform and with Hillary leading the charge, we will vanquish the Ted Cruz, Tea Party Republicans in 2016 and create a generation of Democrats who will make sure the middle class gets what it needs, our country advances and the torch held by that beautiful lady in New York’s harbor burns more brightly than ever.”
Schumer also praised Barack Obama, saying, “Suffice to say, in 2008, the time was right for Barack Obama. He has successfully navigated this country through some choppy waters and he will continue to do so for the next three years.”
He somehow managed to claim that the Tea Party was a model for how the Democrats should approach American voters: “Here is the main point where Democrats have failed: We have failed to tap into and to constructively direct the anger and angst in America. We know people are tired and frustrated and angry. The Tea Party’s emergence and strength stems from this anger and if we don’t re-channel that anger into constructive and effect solutions, America will be a different, more sour, less successful place for a generation.”
Yet he still found a way to indicate his disdain for the Tea Party, saying, “If the Tea Party continues to keep its grip on the Republican Party, I think we can safely predict that they will lose the election dramatically in 2016 just as they lost the election of 2012.”
The Democrats are trying to unify behind Hillary to prevent internecine warfare if Vice-President joe Biden decides to throw his hat into the ring; earlier this week House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) hinted that she would endorse a Hillary candidacy, and there was a rumor that a letter signed by the complete roster of the Senate’s Democratic women endorsing Hillary.
