Dem on HealthCare.gov Contractors: 'Burn Their Fingers and Make 'em Pay'

On Wednesday, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) told Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to punish contractors who were responsible for the malfunctioning HealthCare.gov website, saying there is “no excuse” for the website not working.

During a Senate Finance Committee hearing, Nelson said the website’s failures were “inexcusable and people ought to be held to account.”

“As someone who has fought and bled for this and who sincerely thinks that it’s going to work in the long run, I want you to hold ’em to account. I want you to burn their fingers and make ’em pay for not being responsible and producing a product that all of us can be proud,” Nelson told Sebelius.

Sebelius conceded that the website was “not there yet.”
