Man in Santa Suit Handed Out Toys During School Recess

WAUSAU, Wis., Nov. 12 (UPI) — Police in Wisconsin said they are attempting to identify a man who dressed in a Santa suit and handed out Beanie Babies through an elementary school fence.

Principal Jon Euting of Franklin Elementary School in Wausau sent a letter home with students Monday saying the man in the Santa suit approached the playground fence around 1 p.m., when first graders were outside for recess, and gave out Christmas wishes and Beanie Babies to students, the Wausau (Wis.) Daily Herald reported Tuesday.

“Our playground supervisor immediately approached the man and asked him to leave the school grounds and he did so,” Euting said. “At no time did we feel our students were in any kind of danger.”

The man remained outside the fence at all times, Euting wrote in the letter.

“We’ll be using this incident as part of our guidance lessons this week,” Euting said. “It’s a good reminder for our students and our parents to stay away from strangers.”

Euting said a DARE officer who was at the school at the time of the incident called dispatch to open an investigation.
