Exclusive: House Judiciary Chairman Opposes Conference with Senate Amnesty Bill
House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) joined House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in opposing conference committee with the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” immigration bill.
“Chairman Goodlatte agrees with Speaker Boehner’s statement,” a House Judiciary Committee aide said in an email to Breitbart News. “Chairman Goodlatte believes the Senate immigration bill is fundamentally flawed and doesn’t think it’s wise for the House to go to conference on the Senate immigration bill.
"From the beginning, the House Judiciary Committee has taken a step-by-step approach to immigration reform, starting with enforcement first, so that we get immigration reform right.”
On Wednesday morning, Boehner publicly came out against a conference committee with the Senate bill after months of leaving the door open. Cantor quickly joined him and McCarthy shortly thereafter. Now, with Goodlatte’s opposition to a conference committee, there are hardly any House leaders who still suggest leaving that door open.
