The 24-year old illegal immigrant who heckled President Barack Obama on Monday did not enter the country illegally. In fact, Ju Hong and his family entered the country legally and overstayed a tourism visa, highlighting how dramatically increasing the number of visas in a comprehensive immigration reform bill may lead to more illegal immigrants.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, “Hong and his mother and sister all entered the country on tourist visas that expired soon after they arrived.”
As Breitbart News has reported, the immigration bill passed by the Senate would increase the number of high-tech (H-1B) visas awarded annually from 65,000 to up to 180,000 a year, while also giving “permanent resident green cards to any foreigner with an advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math from a U.S. school who is offered a U.S. job.”
That comprehensive immigration bill, which President Barack Obama, Democrats, and some Republicans who are backed by big-business interests want to pass, would not only lower the wages of working class Americans, as the Congressional Budget Office determined, but it would also potentially lead to another call for amnesty. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has repeatedly stated that increasing the number of visas and guest-worker permits that can be renewed for up to six years will not solve the illegal immigrant problem because immigrants who receive various visas will plant roots and not leave after their visas expire. He said the country will be “right back in the situation we are today.”
Hong, who cannot be deported because he received temporary amnesty under Obama’s deferred action program, enacted by executive fiat, shouted at Obama, “You have a power to stop deportation for all undocumented immigrants in this country.” Obama replied, “Actually, I don’t… and that’s why we’re here.”
