Tea Party Patriots: Boehner Thinks He's Not Accountable to Voters
On Thursday, the Tea Party Patriots said House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is declaring war against Americans who put him in power to reduce the deficit.
“Speaker Boehner thinks ‘outside groups’ are the problem?" Tea Party Patriots co-founder Jenny Beth Martin said in a statement. "Does he really think the American voters who are involved in the tea party, who got him elected, should not demand accountability of their elected representatives?"
Boehner has criticized conservative groups during two straight press conferences.
"Frankly, I just think they've lost all credibility," Boehner told reporters on Thursday, slamming Tea Party groups that opposed the budget deal that would do away with the sequester.
Martin added that Boehner's "anger and ire is misdirected towards the wrong people," because "President Obama is choosing whether to enforce laws in the country or not by whim." She then stated that "Members of Congress renege on their pledges not to spend more or increase taxes on hardworking Americans."
“Frankly, Mr. Speaker, continuously making promises and then breaking them is how you lose credibility with the American people," Martin said. "Pitting your colleagues against their constituents is how you lose credibility with your conference. Not upholding conservative principles is how you lose credibility with the voters who will find someone else if you are not willing to do your job."
