School Car Wash Fundraisers Banned in DC Suburb

In Virginia’s Arlington County, car wash fundraisers have been banned in part to new regulations passed by the Virginia General Assembly.

Under the new regulations, the Arlington County’s storm water permit does not allow charity car washes, according to a report from ARLnow’s Ethan Rothstein.

“The chlorinated water, detergents, petroleum products, and other pollutants that get washed into the storm drain system are carried into our local streams, the Potomac River and ultimately, to the Chesapeake Bay,” she continued. “As a result, there are educational and environmental benefits that come with finding new and environmentally friendly ways to raise money for extracurricular activities.”
