Woman to Command UN Peacekeeping Force for First Time

On August 13th, Norway's Major General Kristin Lund will become the first woman to command a UN peacekeeping force.

According to BBC News, Lund told the Associated Press that she was "looking forward to the challenges of her new job." She also said she was "proud to crack the glass ceiling in UN peacekeeping." Stated Lund, "I think it's time, and I think it's important, that other women see that it's possible also in the UN system to get up in the military hierarchy to become a force commander."

Lund has a 34-year military career, which includes "postings in Lebanon and Afghanistan." When she takes command in Cyprus, she will take over for China's Major General Chao Liu and will "lead troops in Cyprus."
