Eric Cantor: 'I Don't Think That I Want to Be a Lobbyist'
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor stated on ABC’s This Week that he didn’t want to be a lobbyist after his primary defeat last week.
“Would you rule out becoming a lobbyist?” asked host Jonathan Karl.
“I don't think that I want to be a lobbyist, but I do want to be -- play a role in -- in the public debate,” Cantor replied. “I’ve had a lot of experience, obviously, in the intersection of government and politics and issues affecting the global economy.”
Cantor said that he was “gratified” by multiple people who had reached out to him with opportunities in the future.
“I don't want to close off any options right now. I'm just hopeful that I can continue to be a champion for the kinds of things that we are working on here in Washington,” he said. “I believe after almost 23 years in public service, 23 plus years in public service, that -- that I can play a role and not just in elected office, obviously, but in the private sector.”
