Man wanted for theft allegedly hid 16 bags of heroin in his baby's diaper during arrest

NEW CASTLE, Del., July 9 (UPI) —

Police in Deleware say a man arrested for theft Tuesday allegedly attempted to hide heroin in his 8-month-old baby’s diaper when police apprehended him.

In late June, 25-year-old Michael Penn allegedly stole a Samsung tablet from a Delaware Verizon store and was identified from surveillance footage on July 6.

Local police found Penn riding bikes with his three children at the time of the arrest. Penn initially refused officers request to come peacefully, attempting to candidly shuffle something into his 8-month-old’s diaper.

Eventually police cuffed Penn and allegedly found 16 bags of heroin shoved in the baby’s pants.

Penn is charged with shoplifting, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, possession of heroin, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Penn’s children have been turned over to his grandmother. Penn was released from prison on $4,500 bond pending a court hearing.
