Customs and Border Protection agents have seized approximately $80,000 worth of cocaine, hidden inside candy, from a Honduran woman traveling to the United States “on business” from El Salvador.
According to CBP, agents at Washington Dulles International Airport last week discovered more than one and a half pounds of cocaine hidden inside caramelized sugar cane candy after they inspected the contents of packages the unidentified woman was carrying.
“CBP officers remain ever vigilant at intercepting illicit narcotics before it can hurt our families and communities,” Wayne Biondi, CBP port director for the Port of Washington, said in a statement.
CBP reports that following “extensive interviews, authorities were satisfied that she was a courier. After completion of her immigration processing by CBP she was returned abroad the same day and is barred from returning to the U.S. for a minimum of five years.”
Last fiscal year, in four incidents, CBP agents seized more than twelve pounds of cocaine at Washington Dulles International Airport.
