Obama Denounces Islamic State: 'No Just God Would Stand for What They Did'
A visibly angry President Obama denounced Islamic State terrorists for beheading American journalist James Foley, lecturing them for their “bankrupt” ideology.
“ISIL speaks for no religion,” Obama stated, noting that their victims were “overwhelmingly Muslim.”
“No faith teaches people to massacre innocents,” he added. “No just God would stand for what they did yesterday and what they do every single day.”
Obama denounced the group for rampaging through cities and hurting civilians with cowardly acts of violence, including raping and torturing and enslaving women and children. He also noted that the terrorist group was targeting both Christians and Muslims as well as other religious minorities.
Obama expressed comfort that terrorists would “ultimately fail” because of their ideology.
“They fail because the future's won by those who build and not destroy, and the world is shaped by people like Jim Foley and the overwhelming majority of humanity who are appalled by those who kill them,” he said.
Obama vowed to be "vigilant" and "relentless" in support of a coalition of peaceful people in the Middle East and called for a “common effort to extract this cancer so it does not spread.”
“We will continue to confront this hateful terrorism and replace it with a sense of hope and civility,” he said.
