As International Conflicts Rise, Obama Meets with National Security Council

As violence continues to escalate around the world, President Obama will meet with members of the National Security Council Thursday, the White House reports.

The meeting, which will be closed to the press, was added to the President’s schedule Thursday morning. Vice President Joe Biden will also participate in the meeting remotely, as he is fundraising in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced on Thursday that Russian troops had crossed the border into Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State (IS) has stepped up its military activity in Syria, capturing an airport.

Obama has authorized surveillance flights in Syria, but he remains undecided on whether to take further military action in the country.

After over 100 air strikes have been completed against IS targets in Iraq, they have begun to level off.
