Patient with 'Ebola-like Symptoms' in DC Hospital

A patient with “Ebola-like symptoms” is being treated in a Washington, D.C., hospital on Friday, two days after Thomas Eric Duncan became the first person on American soil to be diagnosed with the contagious disease.

According to NBC Washington, the patient, who is being treated at Howard University Hospital, “had traveled to Nigeria recently” and “has been admitted to the hospital in stable condition, and is being isolated and tested.”

“In an abundance of caution, we have activated the appropriate infection control protocols, including isolating the patient,” Howard University Hospital spokesperson Kerry-Ann Hamilton reportedly said. “Our medical team continues to evaluate and monitor progress in close collaboration with the CDC and the Department of Health.”

Duncan, the Liberian who is being treated for Ebola in Texas, reportedly had a three-hour layover at Dulles International Airport in the Washington, D.C., region before getting on board a United Airlines flight from Dulles to Dallas on September 20.
