President Barack Obama revealed that he had lunch with Bill Gates “the other day” during a Friday town hall event at an Indiana steel manufacturing plant.
Gates was in Washington, D.C. on Monday for a Politico event, and he praised Obama for leading the world in combating Ebola.
“Was there some other government who took decisive action before we did? Was the data really clear?” Gates said. “Is there someone else who’s research is going to give us the vaccine that will be the key to making sure this outbreak doesn’t happen again? The U.S. is the leader on being able to move into areas like this and help out.”
Days later, a Liberian immigrant in Texas became the first person on American soil to be diagnosed with Ebola. On Friday, two people in the Washington, D.C. area were hospitalized and isolated with “Ebola-like symptoms,” as the Obama administration has come under fire for not instituting a travel ban to West African countries and the Center for Disease Control’s lack of transparency.
On Monday, Gates also plugged policies like Common Core that are of interest to the bipartisan permanent political class. Obama on Thursday vowed to never give up on comprehensive amnesty legislation, and Gates, who called for an unlimited number of high-tech guest-worker visas a week before Microsoft announced it was laying off 18,000 American workers, is also a big proponent of amnesty legislation.
