Miss Him Yet? Amnesty Advocates Yearn for George W. Bush

Some amnesty advocates are yearning for the days of President George W. Bush, who tried to pass comprehensive amnesty legislation with the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ).

According to the Washington Post, many in the pro-amnesty community think the Bush administration cared more about the rightS of illegal immigrants than the Obama administration, even though Obama enacted a temporary amnesty program for DREAMers and will enact another executive action before the end of the year. The activists are disappointed that a liberal president hasn’t been bold enough on helping illegal immigrants remain in the country.

Mary Meg McCarthy of the Heartland Alliance’s National Immigrant Justice Center said the rights of illegal immigrants “were actually better protected under George W. Bush.”

Abel Nuñez, executive director of the Central American Resource Center in the District, told the outlet that, with Bush, “we kind of knew where he was coming from. His party hamstrung him in the end.”

The activists were frustrated that Obama promised them comprehensive amnesty legislation and executive action “by the end of summer,” and has failed to deliver on both.
