Florida Democrats Hope Pot Amendment Propels Charlie Crist to Victory

Democrats are banking on the popularity of a dope amendment to propel Charlie Crist to victory over Republican Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Tuesday.

Crist-crony and fellow law partner John Morgan ponied up millions to put a medical marijuana amendment on the ballot, reports CNN.

“Democrats in Florida privately hope that having a medical marijuana initiative on the ballot can bring out a set of voters who aren’t otherwise likely to vote in a midterm election,” said Washington Post reporter Reid Wilson. “It’s a very political calculation and one that frankly Charlie Crist’s allies have put a lot of money into.”

But Tampa Bay Times political editor Adam Smith tells CNN the millions in pro-marijuana money the Crist forces have spent may backfire with Florida voters.

“There are a lot of people who are now actually kind of mobilizing to vote against [the] medical marijuana initiative, because they think it’s just problematic, too many loopholes, too easy for people to basically be selling marijuana out in the open,” said Smith.

According to the RealClearPolitics average of polls, Democratic challenger Charlie Crist holds a 0.6% edge over Republican Gov. Rick Scott.
