"Resident Evil: Afterlife" is the fourth chapter in the continuing story of Alice (Milla Jovovich) and her battle with the Umbrella Corporation in a world ravaged by a deadly virus and all kinds of cool zombies. I love this series. Like Death Wish 1-5 and the Back to the Future trilogy, sitting down and pounding through all three of these on a Sunday afternoon beats just about anything. Especially if I can hit the sweet spot of a Cheeto-coma.

Jovovich is the real attraction, believably badass, stoic, sexy. The smartest thing the filmmakers have done, however, is with each new chapter they completely switch up the environment where the film takes place. In the first most of the action was set in a modern underground laboratory, then things went urban in number two and in three we were taken into the post-apocalyptic desert.

This one has a definite Matrix meets Amelia Earhart vibe. No idea how that's going to work out, but put along with Predators 2, The Expendables, Inception, put Resident Evil 4 on the shortlist of Tinseltown offerings that can't be missed this year.
