Ashanti Paid $20,000 to Appear at NJ High School
Hip-hop princess Ashanti was paid $20,000 to speak to kids at Atlantic City High School. The city, which was celebrating its multicultural festival, did not pay for the singer; the school did.
“She was paid like any other vendor,” said Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum Donna Haye. The Grammy-Award singer led assemblies for seventh and eighth-graders, had private meetings with students and made an appearance on the school’s radio station. Her message: stay in school.
When questioned about the exorbitant fee, officials at the school claimed that the payment was normal for celebrities who visit the school.
