Oprah Winfrey Says Press 'Cut Her Off at the Knees' Over OWN

Oprah Winfrey is new at this whole wound licking experience. So the former talk show queen clearly was hurt by media reports on her new cable channel OWN’s rocky start.

Winfrey opened up about the process to a friendly New York Times reporter over the weekend. The article covers the entire Winfrey empire, detailing its struggles since its boss relinquished her weekday talk show.

Winfrey isn’t in a forgiving mood about how the press reacted to her early struggles.

Ms. Winfrey also did not hide her dissatisfaction with the criticism she had faced. She told the audience, “the press tried to cut me off at the knees” in its coverage of OWN, and bristled at questions about the challenges her magazine confronted.

“I don’t care what the form is,” Ms. Winfrey said with the conviction of a preacher. “I care about what the message is.”
